Farm projects

A running list of what I am planning to build on the farm this year. Wood, tin, nails, and a lot of figuring it out as I go.

The farm is not a hobby. It is the context the rest of our life sits inside. Chores in the morning. Animals that depend on us. Fences that need fixing. Weather that does not care about the calendar. Working with my hands on it is one of the best things I do all week.

Everything on this page is a build, not a purchase. By the end of the year most of these will exist, probably with at least one unplanned design change per project, because that is how it always goes.

One project wrapping up right now. Three more on deck for the rest of the year.

Current · Wrapping up

Rebuilding the go-cart.

The family go-cart, taken down to the frame and put back together. New paint, new seat, tuned engine, new nerve. Almost done, almost loud again.

Planned 01 · Coop

The chicken coop. The big one.

Not a cute backyard kit. A real coop for a real flock. Roof you can walk under, a run you can walk into, enough nest boxes that we stop arguing about who laid what.

This makes three coops on the property. The two we have now are modest. This is the one that finally matches the size of the flock.

Planned 02 · Barn cats

A palace for the outdoor cats.

Eight barn cats on the property. They earn their keep, and they deserve somewhere nicer than under the porch when it gets cold. So: a little palace. Multiple levels, proper shelter, a covered deck, the whole thing.

Planned 03 · Pasture shelter

Run-in for the back pasture.

Three-sided shelter in one of the pastures so the horses have somewhere to stand out of weather. Wind on one side, open on the sheltered side, hay rack inside.
